'Effervescence in Miniature Exhibit'

This spring the focus is on miniatures

The theme is Effervescence

Bubbles, like life, are temporary. Dynamic, enthusiastic, lively and just like that, gone.
They can only be captured, made eternal, through art. Effervescence in Miniature is all about the creative human spirit.

With so much adversity and hardship in the world, I chose to focus on what human do best, invent and imagine.

Each piece comes with a custom, handmade Italian frame.

These special paintings are not created in the same way as the painting a day pieces. I went back to my roots and used the same technique the Old Masters did, starting with a painstaking drawing, underpainting, and many many layers to create miniatures that catch the eye and draw you in.

Pre-sales open Monday, April 29th.

Grand Opening May 4th, 3-9 pm

Location:

114 Alaskan Way S.
(Seattle)
6th Floor
Studio 601
3-9 pm

I will also have a new collection of new cozy hats, come try one on!

Please DM me if you have any trouble locating or entering the space:

6th Floor

We will also be open for Seattle Art Walk November 2nd, 6-10pm

Faces of Kali, Reimagining Divinity as a Feminine Force

Under the human mask Kali wears is the abyss; the formless void filled with potential. The surface western viewpoint of this deity is naked, blood thirsty and wild-haired; a force of sexuality and destruction. But we have failed to realize her true symbolic worth; illuminated consciousness. She exists beyond name, beyond form, beyond illusion.

I imagine Kali as a divine force that exists both in fury and serenity, the soft and the ridged, everything and nothing. She is the spark that lights thought, the rising smoke from a fire, the effervescence of laughter.  In order to know humanity, she wears the multitudinous masks of human expression. What animates us, animates her. Kali is the beloved Mother wishing not to condemn or judge, but to understand the full scope of human experience through our most expressive and individually unique feature, the face.

Myth of the Chimera

The term "chimera" has come to describe anything composed of disparate parts or perceived as wildly imaginative, implausible, or dazzling. The concept of being a full-time artist was, for me, merely a dream two decades ago. I was told that my dream was an illusion, impossible. I have devoted the last two decades of my life believing in the impossible and creating a life using my imagination. My work is my Chimera, my dream made real.

Join us and walk into another world, another place where dreams become reality.

Paintings, sculpture, hats and a sneak peek into the project my team and I have been working on for a year.

Location: 114 Alaskan Way S. Seattle, WA 98104

The building is between Washington and Yesler on Alaskan Way S.

Once you're in go to the 6th floor and take a right, you can't miss it.

There is an entry code that isn't public so TEXT ME (425-281-0536) when you're there and I'll give you the code. Feel free to bring friends and kids.

The exhibit will also be open for a pre-show during Art Walk April 6th (4-10). The grand opening of the space will be held that night, (right next door to the space I usually show in) it's going to be fun so if you're out and about come and say hi!

The Peculiar Obscura Holiday Shoppe

Welcome toThe Peculiar Obscura Holiday Shoppe!

Starting today and ending on December 18th, I will begin posting what I've been busily working on in the studio.

When I was a kid my favorite place to go was the Old Curiosity Shop on the waterfront in Seattle. It was filled with oddities of all kinds and I couldn't wait to visit the strange things in jars, mummies, and the dusty creatures hanging from the ceiling there. I thought, why not open my own curiosity shop for the holidays?
There will be mobiles, tabletop sculpture, stem pots with branches that glow in the dark, Plague Babies (including discounted accessories) and one discounted painting posted every Tuesday at noon PST.
And there's more. Every Saturday (beginning this Saturday the 6th) I will be taking appointments to see The Peculiar Obscura Holiday Shoppe in person from 11am to 4pm. Kids and friends are welcome. Come explore where it all happens.

If you live in the Seattle area email me juli@juliadams.com for a Saturday time slot. If you live far away don't worry, everything will be posted online.

To see videos of new curiosities go to: https://www.instagram.com/juliadamsart/

Masks are required inside the studio.

The Plague Baby Adoption Center Open Adoptions Event!

The Plague Baby Adoption Center Open Adoptions Event!

What are Plague Babies?

No one really knows. Sometimes the world is a mysterious place.

In early spring, a little basket appeared on my doorstep. I heard a tiny burp, whispering, and giggles. Under a pile of socks, sure enough, there were the strangest creatures looking up at me, their faces sticky with gummy bears. Word got out it seems, and more appeared, then several more.

Before long it was clear something had to be done, and
The Plague Baby Adoption Center was born.

While it's true that we don't know exactly what Plague Babies are, we know that we love them and want the very best for their future. We've worked hard to instill good habits like hugging instead of biting, inside voices, and being nice to kitties.

We are happy to announce
Open Adoptions for one month starting September 7th, at 5pm PST. Each day we will feature one Plague Baby, with information about who they are, allergies, and things they may need to work on.

We strongly encourage new parents to send us pictures and videos of their adoptees.  Every week on
Facebook we will post what you send us, as well an open Q&A to answer letters and questions.

Adoption fees are $95. With your Plague Baby you will receive a Certificate of Adoption which includes information unique to each child.

You can find daily adoption posts here:
www.juliadams.com

To join in on the fun and banter find us on
Facebook, as well as The Plague Baby Adoption Center on Instagram

Our Adoption Center provides a safe and loving place for Plague Babies to transition into family life. Here, they are encouraged to be who they are, learn good manners and essential life skills. While each Plague Baby is unique, we can say with certainty that they love new friends and adventures. While they should never, ever be introduced to dogs or small children, they adore kitties and turtles.

Open Adoptions begin

September

7th at 5pm PST.

Please join us on Facebook and Instagram for interactive fun and photos.

No Known Origin, a Painting a Day series

No Known Origin

November 14 to December 15

I'm working on bringing into existence something that I've felt as a painter for many years. 'No Known Origin' is a collection of paintings that are born from a mysterious place in me. I'm inspired and very excited to share them with you.

In order to flesh out my ideas, I'm painting on small canvases called 'studies'. A study is a painting done in preparation for a finished piece. They are used to capture the essence of a composition and to plan the elements to be used in a final piece.

I have 40 canvases and 32 days to play with ideas.

Each canvas will be posted for sale every day starting today through the 15th of December. Each painting is $160.

I will post every day at 11 am PST

I will choose a handful to create larger works. If you really like a study I will paint a larger piece for you.

Here's the cool part. If you purchase ANY study and would like to commission a piece or buy one of the larger works I post, you will get $160 off that piece.

Please contact me for information on dimensions and pricing for mid and full size paintings.

Fall Auction Event Series

I’m excited to announce the Fall Auction Event Series beginning Monday, October 8th at 10am PST.

While I’m working on a new collection this fall I need to make room in my studio and find good homes for these paintings.

For four weeks (Monday through Friday) one painting per day will be set to auction. Each painting will be on auction for 8 hours, from 10am to 6pm PST.

The auction takes place LIVE on my Facebook Fan Page. Bids will be public so everyone can see how the bids are progressing.

Paintings will also be posted HERE on my website. Please note the actual auction takes place on my art page on Facebook

How it works

Each painting will have a Retail Price, a Reserve Price (starting bid) and a Buy Now price.

Bids will be in increments of $25, $50, and $100.

For example: A 12” x 18” Original Oil Painting retails at $1200

Buy Now $800

Reserve Price (starting bid) $600

To make a bid, all you have to to is write your bid in ‘Comments’ under that days’ piece by adding $25, $50, or $100 to the Reserve Price. If you love a piece and don’t want to compete to get it, you can write ‘Buy Now’ in the comments under the post. The bidding will then end for that piece.

To check out the auction and stay updated, ‘Like’ my The Art of Juli Adams Facebook Page

If someone chooses the Buy Now price as the first bid, the auction closes for that piece, otherwise whoever bids the highest price by 6pm wins the piece.

Arrangements for payment will be made via email:

juli@juliadams.com

or by phone:

425-281-0536

By making a bid on any piece in the auction you agree to these terms: Every sale is final. Sale price does not include tax and/or shipping. Payment, shipping or pick up arrangements must be made via email (juli@juliadams.com) or phone (425-281-0536) the day of sale. Payment options include: Visa/MC, PayPal, Cash or Check. Shipments will be sent out at the end of each week.

'I Saw the Face of Hecate'  ("HEH-ka-tee")

A show about revealing and integrating the shadow self.

'Hecate was a powerful female figure in ancient mythology who symbolized the 'Queen of the Night' who travelled with "ghosts" and outcasts where she was honored and feared as the protectress of the oppressed and those who lived "on the edge". Hecate's ability to see into the Underworld, the "otherworld" of the sleeping and the dead, made her comfortable and tolerant of those most would shun out of fear or misunderstanding.'

Joseph Campbell describes the characters in mythology as aspects of ourselves moving (or not) through the 'Hero's Journey' toward self-actualization. Hecate represents the fearless female voice of willingly delving into our own darkness to explore, reveal, and integrate our unique and authentic selves.

'The Fool goes where others fear to tread. The Archetype of the Holy Fool is alive and well, and the line between mysticism and madness is still razor thin…

When you step out in faith like the Fool, others may declare you insane.

You can’t be The Magician unless you’re first willing to be The Fool. You can’t wield spiritual power without stepping, as the Fool steps, into the Void.  The Void is the space between the worlds.  It’s the place where creation begins. It’s where magic arises.  It’s the emptiness where nothing happens, and nothing is left undone.'
